The Championship
The Qualifiers
The 2024 Championship Qualifiers will be hosted by Devon, Mattituck, Old Cove, Orient, Shinnecock, Southampton and Southold Yacht Clubs.
*There will be 6 Optimist Qualifiers.
*There will be 5 Laser and C420 Qualifiers.
* The Shelter Island Regatta for c420, Laser and Opti can count as one regatta towards quilifiying for the PGJSA Championship and not the Summer Series.
* South Shore Championship for C420 can also count as one of the sailed regattas provided they sail in one other PGJSA Qualifier. This will not count towards the summer series.
*The Championship Regatta will be its own event, not a Qualifier.
Rules and Guidelines
Team Racing at all events is prohibited and may be protested and result in a penalty.
*There must be at least 3 PGJSA sailors in a fleet for that fleet’s Qualifier to be scored as part of the Championship.
*For a fleet to be included in the Championship Regatta there must be at least 2 qualified PGJSA sailors participating in that fleet.
*A sailor's change of sail numbers from what appears on the event’s registration form, without notifying the host club check-in staff and the Race Committee prior to the first race, will result in disqualification.
* Laser sailors shall remain with the rig chosen in their first regatta.
*The skipper in the qualifying events must remain the same. The crew may change.
Scoring
Qualifiers: The final standings of each regatta will be calculated using the Low-Point Scoring System-Appendix A of the racing rules. There will be throw-outs for 5 races or more.
In the event that a regatta is cancelled completely (and not postponed or rescheduled), a sailor who was registered and checked in at that regatta will still be allowed to compete at the Championship regatta in their given class as long as they have received a finishing score in 1 other Qualifier regatta.
Championship Regatta: The Low-Point Scoring System-Appendix A of the racing rules will be used to calculate the final standings. There will be ONE throw-out if 5 or more races are completed. PGJSA Championship scoring policies will apply for all classes. This event is not a Qualifier.
NEW - no carry forward scores will be used for the purpose of scoring the championship. You will still need to qualify accordingly to the rules of the PGJSA.

Eligibility for the Championship Regatta
Championship Regatta location will be posted on the calendar of events.

If a sailor's score line for a regatta consists of all DNS or DNC scores, or a combination thereof, that regatta will NOT count as one of the required 2 events needed to qualify for the Championship. *All sailors must be a member of the PGJSA through their own club.

Results of the Championship Regatta will be announced at the end of the racing and upon conclusion of any protests.
